The large 28 year old Monterey Pine Tree blew over in a violent spring gale onto the Meadow,
(Wed 12th March 2008 between 3.15am when it was standing, when I rose at 6 am it was down)
the outer branches were removed being carted off to the wood bonfire. Then the real hard work began. The main trunk was cut into large Rondells and stored away under the Alder & Hawthorne trees nearby to dry.
Thereafter a long period of time (Two hundred & 1/2 days on Wed: 1st Oct 2008 at 2.40pm) the whole remaining trunk plus root structure, containing many large rocks & stones, weighing at least ten tons; suddenly it turned upright completely on its own. Obviously ‘The Little People’ had been at work. Since then a natural ten feet Long Branch of Alder with perch attached has been fixed to the old Pine Stump for the Buzzards to watch their prey!
